Human-Centric Products Design

Convenient and affordable 3D sensing technology as well as consumer’s participation in design lead to a large amount of design data, especially in 3D format. Under such a situation, data-driven design methods become increasingly applicable and useful for design generation. To facilitate the data-driven design, we extend the current computational design framework to knowledge-based shape understanding by discovering the geometric feature and patterns from data. Together with topology optimization, we investigate representations and design parameters from data to develop a generative design automation framework. Practical applications such as human-centric product design will benefit from the framework.
